PRINCE BISHOPS STUD |
WELCOME TO THE PRINCE BISHOPS STUD |
|
2011 was a busy year for the stud and the farm and was also sadly the year we said goodbye to a very special friend. Spud ( The Spuddie ) was a horse in a million, a faithful partner who made dreams come true. He could turn his hoof to anything.Through out his successful career he did everything from Riding Club to eventing, team chasing to side saddle and western riding to teaching people to ride. He will be especially missed for his generous nature and particulary large heart, combined with extreme intelligence. Rest in peace Spud. (June 87 - March 2011)

Prince Bishops Stud is the home of John and Carole Swinburn. The farm has been in John's family since 1956 and horses have always played a part for both work and recreation, with all of the family involved one way or another. After a break of several years whilst busy with other pursuits including football.John bred a horse to return to competitive riding and Spud was born in the farms potato house in 1987.Together Spud and John contested team chases untill it was decided that Spud should go eventing. This allowed John to try his hand at training and riding point to point which he did for 3 years, whilst Spud evented very successfully with Carole competing at intermediate level and the partnership representing Great Britain at the Riding Clubs European 3 day event in Austria. They returned with a bronze medal and Carole now has the right to wear the Union Jack on her hat silk whilst competing. John and Carole wre married in 1994 and since then the time has passed in a whirlwind of horses and competing and organising very successful events both affiliated and unaffiliated with a huge amount being done to help the riding clubs in the area. In 1995 the decision was made to breed their own sport horses and in 2002 they started using their homebred coloured stallion to produce quality horses many of whom are themselves coloured. |
